For the energetic a trek along the path towards Horton Plains and World's End is ideal. This is one of the original roads towards Horton Plains, a remote wild windswept plateau, the highest in Sri Lanka first discovered by Sir Thomas Farr Englishman Planter in 1890. Once this had been a good road used by Horse carts but now reduced to only a foot path after a bridge had been washed away in the 1940s. Follow the telephone posts as the path wriggles along some breathtaking scenery with a steady accent, and you will come to a virtual stop after about 1.5km. This is where the bridge had been washed away. Here you will have to descend down the forest path crossing the stream and again climb to the original path. Follow this and after some time you will come to a spot where you can either follow the telephone posts (the short cut) or stick to the path. Both ways you will arrive at the Udaweriya Tea Plantations and tea factories. From here onwards you can follow the road or ask directions for paths to Horton Plains. Even if you go half way you will be rewarded with a magnificent view perhaps one that is even better than the one from World's End cliff edge.
There are numerous paths inside our 140 acre private jungle land for you to walk along. All these nature walks are absolutely safe and very interesting. In all the streams the water is safe to drink. You can also climb the mountain right behind the Lodge. Unless you are a good mountaineer do not go beyond where the path ends. On a clear day if you climb up early morning you'll be able to view the sun-rise from the East Coast of Sri Lanka.
Bambarakande falls the highest in Sri Lanka; accessible by road from the main road is also an interesting trek for The energetic. Make sure to take your picnic lunch and bathing wear. You will be walking along paddy fields and remote rural villages before coming to the road that leads to the falls. Once you come near the falls there is a narrow path leading to where the water actually falls. Here you can have your bath and enjoy the picnic lunch.
For a day's outing the hill country resort towns of Nuwara-Eliya and Bandarawela are only a few hours drive. The closest town Haputale is 12 KM. from the main road. Diyaluma, Dunhinda and Ravana falls are also interesting places to visit. If you pass Haputale do not forget to visit Additiom, a Benedictine monastery once the residence of the late Sir Thomas Villiers a brother of one time Prime Minister of England. If wild life is your interest, Yala and Uda Walawe National Parks are only day trips.
Our swimming pool is fed by natural spring water and the cool waters will refresh you. If you are tired of having your meals inside, why not inquire about having a private B.B.Q. with a bon-fire by the pool side.
